Laptops

Although it seems as if laptops have been around forever, now being a mainstay in millions of people's lives, the truth is that this phenomenal device has a short but impressive history. The very first such portable computer was first introduced in 1975. The first computer was the result of another project based on two specific prototypes.

As people can only imagine, laptops today are nothing even close to this initial rollout. For instance, initially, the laptop weighed 22 pounds whereas today, some of the newer notebook computers are a mere three pounds. Another major change was the actual look. Currently, laptops are fully functional computers with large, easy to use keyboards and display screens up to 17 inches. However, the first product had an oversized keyboard and a very small screen. While developed as a portable device, earlier computers were difficult to use and hard on the eyes.

Within four years of the first laptop, another computer was introduced, this one far better. This new prototype weighed less than 10 pounds and featured many more of the modern features now enhanced with today's computer. While this portable device was a huge improvement over the earlier laptops, it had one serious flaw - price. Costing almost $9,000, few people could afford the luxury of owning one. Therefore, this particular model was primarily used during the early 1980s by NASA on various space shuttle endeavors.

Then in 1983, laptops would again see a huge overhaul. The new touchpad technology made this personal computer far more portable but it still lacked in many areas. It was not until 10 years later that another computer model would be launched. This small, portable device was more affordable, smaller, and a better alternative to anything that had been developed to that point.

For instance, with smaller components being used, these laptops did not overheat, which was a common problem with other computers but they were slow in performance. From that day forward, a multitude of changes was seen. Each of the laptops being created was smaller yet more reliable and powerful. Using the design and features of a computer designed in the 1990s, the modern system is an incredible piece of machinery.

In 2009, laptop sales are expected to reach to more than $175 million. These small, lightweight, and fully loaded devices will continue to evolve, as technology improves even further. Experts anticipate some remarkable designs being rolled out within the next few years, likely being more robust yet more portable, convenient, and affordable.
